FIFA World Cup 2010

FIFA World Cup 2010 Winners is Spain

Pride for Africa as Spain strike gold

Only 12 kilometres separate Spain from Africa at their closest point and they were united in celebration at the finish of a 19th FIFA World Cup™ that sent a fault line of happiness stretching all the way from Bloemfontein to Barcelona.
This was Africa's first FIFA World Cup and it will live in the memory as much for the spirit and smiles of the host nation as for the success of a Spain team who achieved their own first when Andres Iniesta's 116th-minute winner against the Netherlands put them into the record books as the eighth country to capture football's most prized crown.

FIFA World Cup 2010The 2010 FIFA World Cup will be the 19th FIFA World Cup, the premier international football tournament. It is scheduled to take place between 11 June and 11 July 2010 in South Africa. The 2010 FIFA World Cup will be the culmination of a qualification process that began in August 2007 and involved 204 of the 208 FIFA national teams. As such, it matches the 2008 Summer Olympics as the sports event with the most competing nations.

2010 stadiums: mission accomplished

After six years of sustained hard work and intense global scrutiny of their ability to deliver, South Africa's nine host cities have produced 10 World Cup stadiums – matching and exceeding international standards – which will soon be known to television viewers the world over.

World Cup 2010 stadium

Soccer City in Johannesburg

Soccer City (also know as the FNB Stadium) is earmarked to host both the opening and final matches of the 2010 Soccer World Cup. Built in 1987, Soccer City has played host to some of the most memorable matches in South Africa’s soccer history.

Moses Mabhida World Cup Stadium

In Durban, South Africa, the 70,000-seater Moses Mabhida Stadium by gmp architekten has an unique architectural feature inspired by the South African flag. With its grand arch design, the two legs of the arch on the southern side of the stadium come together to form a single footing on the northern side, symbolizing the new unity of a once-divided country. The 70,000-seater has been specifically designed as a multi-purpose venue not only meets FIFA requirements but can also host the Commonwealth Games or Olympic Games. The number will be reduced to 56,000, but can be temporarily increased to as many as 85,000 for major events.
The shape of the bowl results from the interaction of the circular roof structure with the triple-radius geometry of the arena.

Loftus Versfeld - Pretoria

In the city of Tshwane (Pretoria), Loftus Versfeld is situated 5 km from the city centre. To qualify for selection as a first and second round venue for the 2010 FIFA™ World Cup, the floodlights, sound system and scoreboard at Loftus Versfeld were upgraded and designated media areas were constructed in the lower level of the west stand. Loftus Versfeld Stadium is the homeground of the Sundowns Football Club, one of South Africa’s premiere professional clubs. Since 1977 Loftus Versfeld has undergone many renovations and its four major stands have been completely rebuilt.

Ellis Park Stadium

Ellis Park Stadium is a world class sporting venue, at the centre of the bustling city of Johannesburg.
This stadium has a special place in South Africans hearts after the 1995 Rugby World Cup final, when South Africa beat New Zealand during extra time in what was probably one of the most thrilling rugby matches ever.
Ellis Park Stadium is also a major football venue in South Africa, and is home to the Lions, the Cats and Kaizer Chiefs Football Club.

Nelson Mandela Stadium

Situated in the North End of Port Elizabeth on the shores of the North End Lake this state of the art multipurpose stadium is been constructed by Grinaker-LTA in a 50:50 joint venture with Dutch company Interbeton, since March 15, 2007, when the tender was awarded. The architectural companies are: Architectural Design Associates (Port Elizabeth)(PTY)Ltd. And Dominic Bonnesse Architects cc.
The Stadium Capacity is 48 459. The building is approx. 40m high from field level to top of roof and consists of six levels in West Stand and 5 levels in the North, South and East Stands
